Het nieuws is al rondgegaan op verschillende haak-groepen op Facebook, maar nu is het dan ook eindelijk tijd om hier ook iets te schrijven over de nu al zeer bekende Tree of Life Omslagdoek (of shawl, dit klinkt wat interessanter).

Nadat ik was begonnen aan een deken volgens een patroon van Lionbrand.com bleek dat ik VEEL te weinig garen had om de deken in zijn geheel af te maken, natuurlijk heel erg jammer, maar het reliëfpatroon van de deken vond ik zo ontzettend mooi en leuk om te maken dat ik uiteindelijk heb besloten er iets anders mee te gaan doen. Zo ben ik begonnen aan mijn eerste Tree of Life omslagdoek. Het was natuurlijk in het begin heel erg puzzelen en passen en meten, maar uiteindelijk is het gelukt en was de eerste Tree of Life omslagdoek klaar - met ene beetje van Lionbrand, en een heleboel van mezelf.
After I had started work on an afghan based on a pattern from Lionbrand.com (I was about halfway through), I realised that I did not have enough yarn to finish the project - to finish it I would have needed double the amount I had purchased. It was a real shame I could not finish the afgphan, but since I absolutely loved the relief-stitch pattern and I loved crocheting the pattern. After some thought I decided to do something else with the lovely pattern and this is how I started work on my first Tree of Life Shawl. In the beginning it was a bit of a mess, but it was like a puzzle and I absolutely had to solve it. In the end, everything worked out and the first Tree of Life shawl was born - with a bit of Lionbrand and a lot of myself.

Op Facebook bleek de Tree of Life omslagdoek zeer gewaardeerd te worden en kwamen er vragen over een patroon. Uiteindelijk heb ik besloten zelf een soort handleiding voor de omslagdoek te maken zodat mijn collega handwerksters/haaksters ook de kans kregen om de omslagdoek te maken. Daarvoor was het wel nodig om een tweede omslagdoek te maken, die beter was - lees: groter, meer in proportie, etc. - en zodat ik ook meteen een patroon bij kon houden.

Deze omslagdoek is 'clean' gehouden om goed te kunnen laten zien hoe hij in elkaar zit voor de handleiding en om verschillende opties voor het uiterlijk van de omslagdoek te kunnen laten zien aan toekomstige makers.
